Designing Legacy:  Details on the NY Liberty x New Jersey Sets Coaches Jacket

Always honored to make something that means something. When we teamed up with the New York Liberty to design a commemorative coach jacket, the mission was clear: create a piece that felt as powerful as the team it honors. We started with a crisp nylon shell for that classic coach jacket structure — lightweight, versatile, and ready for NYC weather. The details: snap-button closures  for a timeless finish, inner mesh  lined with the silver trophy artwork  and layered chenille embroidery that proudly highlights the “NY” mark. Every patch, every stitch, was designed to reflect the grind and the glory of the Liberty’s historic championship run.

PROJECT: Design and manufacturing 

Design process started with many pieces including a wool varsity letterman (We hope this one sees light of day one day) But with weather in mind and time of year we opted for a lighter more versatile product.  Sourcing quality materials with high standards for embroidery placement and lining customization took months of back-and-forth with production partners. From perfecting the thread density on the chenille patches to dialing in the color of the signature Seafoam green. (seafoam is always tough to dial in but when you do, it hits) we had to navigate delays, sample revisions, and constant color testing. But that’s what separates custom from stock — our jackets aren’t mass-produced; they’re considered, crafted, and built to last. This jacket wasn’t just made for the Liberty, it was made with the spirit of their journey in mind.

For us, this drop is more than merch — it’s a statement. Women’s hoops is having a moment, and NJS is beyond proud to play our part in shaping its culture through pieces that elevate the game.
